All of the fixes for font size (on the composing end of emails) seems to be aimed at earlier versions of Thunderbird. Can you advise me or direct me to a more current solution? Thanks!!

what part of it can't you figure out? None of the options have really changes, they are just muddled in together now under options instead of having lots of finely grained panels. apparently searching for options is the current way such things are done.

Options/General/Language & Appearance, Advanced..., set the fonts and sizes with Fonts for: Latin, repeat with Fonts for: Other Writing Systems, uncheck 'Allow messages to use other fonts'.
