Thunderbird Accessibility Features

There are many ways to make Thunderbird work with your accessibility needs.

Keyboard Support

Thunderbird has extensive keyboard shortcuts to allow you to perform tasks inside Thunderbird faster. See the Keyboard Shortcuts support page for more information.

If you use a screen reader, there are specific keyboard actions that work with your screen reader. We are updating our support documentation to list these keyboard actions for screen readers.

Windows

On Windows, the following screen readers have been tested to work with Thunderbird.

  • NVDA (free, donation-based)
  • Jaws (commercial)

The following screen readers have not been thoroughly tested with Thunderbird, but are available on Windows.

Mac

On macOS, the following screen readers have not been thoroughly tested with Thunderbird, but are available on macOS.

Linux

On Linux, the following screen readers have not been thoroughly tested with Thunderbird, but are available on Linux operating systems.

  • Orca (GNOME default)


Font Size

115 and greater

There have been significant updates in 115 to improve the ability to adjust the font size throughout the application.

Here's how to change the font size:

  • Click > Font Size and then click the + icon to increase the font size or click the - icon to decrease the font size.

In older versions, the following add-on was recommended for increasing the font size.

Accessibility features specific for Firefox and Firefox for Android

Display Options

In Thunderbird, you have the option to change your display options.

  • Click > Settings > General and then scroll down to "Language & Appearance"
  • The following screen will display:
