Getting RETR error message (can't download emails)

I have a TELSTRA account with several mailboxes. One of those is now generating an RETR message (no such message). Thunderbird is trying to download a number of messages but when I check through the webmail connection there are NO messages)

See if this is caused by an email that was in Inbox, but got moved to a spam folder and thus causing an error. Logon to the webmail account and empty the 'Spam/Junk' folder on server.

Then in Thunderbird try the 'Get Messages'.

If still an issue, back in 'webmail' account - it is likely that one email is causing the issue... locate the last email which was downloaded successfully and delete off server. Then in Thunderbird try the 'Get Messages'.

If still an issue, back in 'webmail' account - locate the oldest email that has not been downloaded and move it into another server folder or delete it once read. Then in Thunderbird try the 'Get Messages'.

Thanks for that feedback. This has been happening for a couple of days now (and yes Telstra are 'looking at it'....) I have already cleared out INBOX, TRASH, JUNK etc so that didn't help. Thunderbird thinks there are 8 message to get but there are actually 0 So, presumably an older message got 'stuck' somewhere causing the message count to report incorrectly.
