Thunderbird profile - number of items

I've been using Thunderbird for a few years. I know how to backup my Thunderbird profile (Windows PC). However what I have noticed is the number of items in the "AppData/Local/Thunderbird" folder was about 7000. The size of the folder is about 350mb. Now, I have recently purged a lot of e-mails (thousands) and while the "AppData/Roaming/Thunderbird" folder has decreased in size considerably (from 4gb to about 200mb), the "AppData/Local/Thunderbird" folder has remained about the same, and only gone down to about 6900 items. So my questions are - Is it normal to have nearly 7000 items in the "AppData/Local/Thunderbird" folder even with relatively few saved e-mails? And if not, how to I prune that folder? I have already done a "repair" and "compact" on every folder.

Chosen solution

Most of the files in Local/Thunderbird are cache files, and can be safely deleted (or ignored) from Options/General/Disk Space. Repairing and compacting only affects files in Roaming/Thunderbird.

Thanks. That did the trick.
