I accidentally close app rather than message tab
I finally migrated from Eudora to Thunderbird and wish I had done so a long time ago.
I'm finding myself constantly closing out the app when all I want to do is to close the message I have open. I keep getting drawn to the upper right "X" rather than the message tab "X". I'm sure I will break this habit eventually but is there any other way to protect me from myself? Can each message open in its own window rather than stacking in the main window?

Look in the Reading & Display section of Options/General to make messages open in a window or windows. Ctrl+W is the shortcut for closing the active tab.
Another way to avoid closing is with an add-on:

I appreciate your response very much! Opening in its own window solves my issue. That is much more intuitive for me.
Is there any way to automatically close any open windows when I exit the program in case there is a dangling window I had left? I think I once left a window open and even though I had exited the program, it still kept grabbing my POP emails in the background. That caused me to miss some emails on the road with my phone....
I'm not aware of any way to close all open windows. Reading mail in the Message Pane or tabs avoids zombie windows when closing.
I will try to avoid Zombie windows :) Thanks again.
