Filter Rules not responding

When I use filters I get Filter Rules (not responding) and after a few minutes delay it comes good. Is there a limit to the number of rules? If not, how do I get the filter to respond without this long delay???

I cut down the number of rules until the problem disappeared. Need to remember to press OK when finished editing otherwise they will all come back!! Anyway thanks Wayne.
