iMac OS 11 (Big Sur) hangs on startup

I installed OS 11.0.1 on my iMac and then Thunderbird refuses to start. The program just "hangs" and I cannot stop it by other means than through Force quit. I tried to reinstall the program, but that didn't help.

What language locale are you running?

I am running OS 11 in English and Thunderbird in English. This was also the case before upgrade to OS 11.

It will display as version 78.6.0 although some places might refer to it as "Thunderbird Daily" because it is a test build.
