Deleting the account from TB doesn't affect the mail on the mail server, although you can go ahead and add it as IMAP (with a different Account Name), while keeping the POP account temporarily. Copy the existing mail in the POP folders to Local Folders for backup, remove the POP account, then add it as IMAP, if your mail provider offers IMAP access:

Thanks for your reply. I have checked in Account Settings and it is POP. I cannot see how to alter it to IMAP? I have many many folders in this email account so I do not want to delete it. What do you suggest please?
