older version of thunderbird
when i try to reinstall using an older version I am currently. using 68.12.1 and itried reinstalling because windows said there is no app associated with this. i tried reinstalling 68.12.1 and i got the following message and lost my addresses and contacts. i also get this message see attachment. i do not want the newer version. how do i reinstall this version and not have to start from scratch

So you got it from the same place as the link I provided. Thunderbird is fine. There is nothing wrong with it. Do not uninstall nor reinstall again.
The 'send to mail' issue is to do with your computer and not Thunderbird. check 'Default app' select 'Choose default application by protocol' Make sure the 'MAILTO' protocol set to use Thunderbird. Suggest you reselect Thunderbird to be sure it has not got it's wired messed up.

AS this could be a real pain trying to work out what on earth Windows OS has done now. By the way 'Send to mail recipient' in my case is wrong as well. It redirects automatically to Windows 'Mail' which I do not use. So I have found a way around the whole mess.
When you use the right click 'Send to' > is Thunderbird actually listed ? If no then try this: Access where Thunderbird is installed C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Thunderbird In the 'Mozilla Thunderbird' folder you will see thunderbird.exe Right click on the 'thunderbird.exe' file and select 'Create shortcut' It will say you cannot create shortcut here and suggests the desktop so say yes and shortcut is created on desktop.
Then in your User Account access: Appdata > Roaming >Microsoft > Windows > 'Send to' folder Drag the newly created thunderbird shortcut icon off the desktop and drop into the 'Send to' folder.
Now you should be able to right click on image and select 'Send to' > 'thunderbird.exe - shortcut'

Good to hear setting the 'MAILTO' protocol worked for you. My previous comment may not be required, but it is another work around that's easy to implement. After dragging shortcut in the 'Send to' folder , I then renamed it say Thunderbird Email.
