Bad Cert for about:config on Android

more options

Hi, all. I recently updated the app via the play store. I gotta say that the new UI looks good, though it is a shame about all my addons need an update. Though, getting to the main point of this post.

Upon updating the app, I wanted to run through the about:config settings I usually alter. The problem is, I'm confronted with a Certificate error.

Hi, access to about:config is not allowed in the release version. So I'd suggest to stay on Beta.

Hi, again. I just wanted to add a few details. I noticed the BETA branch works fine, so out of curiosity I tried a few things on my end. I thought they wouldn't work (they didn't) but I felt it worth a shot. These things were:

  1. Reinstalling the app, and deleting all user data.
  2. Logging out and back into the account.
  3. Using default settings, and removing all addons.

Its also worth noting that the page itself mentioned that it couldn't display an error. I had to go into the Brocken lock icon to see that screenshot I took.

> Hi, access to about:config is not allowed in the release version. So I'd suggest to stay on Beta. in Firefox 79 (release) on Andoid 8 the "about:about" page still shows "about:config" among other links.

what do you mean by not allowed???? Firefox is meant to be free software (free as in freedom not as in free beer). whats the use of about:config to make the browser suit my needs, if you (dev guys) decide to hide it on Android only?

there are several "features" that are really annoying with the default values like: browser.urlbar.suggest.searches doh-rollout.trr-selection.enabled browser.fixup.alternate.enabled keyword.enabled security.secure_connection_icon_color_gray security.insecure_connection_text.enable

if you change it because you think you have to, then this reflects your opinion, not the opinion of all other users (or administrators/devops, like me). so please let us at least change such things back to what we (the users) want!

These are desktop preferences, they don't exist in Firefox for Android (maybe except browser.fixup.alternate.enabled, but can't say if it works).

You are free to download Beta version and use about:config there.

How do you disable javascript in Firefox for Android if you can't open about:config? Thanks for any assistance.

I think that you have the Noscript addon for managing javascript. Check the Addons list.

Thanks. Yes, that works. But people might prefer about:config.

Hi TyDraniu, thanks for your reply.

I don't download single software especially no beta software. either there is an official release available, or not. We don't play around, we need such tools to just use the web. me (and my wife!) get crazy when we try to open a webpage, that we know for sure exists, and the browser magically thinks it has to search the web for similiar content or starts randomly adding www. .com or .net whatever. this only consumes our time and patience. if the browser suggests hits from my history so I can shorten the type-in .. thats ok. but if the browser suggests websearch of URLs i recently typed in .. thats stupid. this is one feature I always switch of in every Firefox setup because if I really wanna search the web I open google or duckduckgo first!

to summarise it. if I cannot make browser work the way we want it and if it steals my time and nerves, it's no longer of any use to us!

and because Firefox more and more becomes Google Chrome I'm close to wipe it from all smarthpones, tablets, PCs I'm responsible for. do u remember the slogan "take back the web" ? to some extend "you" did succeed. Firefox is becoming Chrome, Microsoft Edge already is Chrome so I can switch to worlddominiation software from Google "Zorg" Industries completely. (Android)

sry, Regards from Germany!

PS: why does about:config even exists?? drop it from all other versions as well! this would make at least some sense.
