First of all, does anyone know where is the bug-report button in thunderbird. I am not sure many people would bother to search on google for 5 min just to report a bug.

Second of all, i am using the latest version of thunderbird 78.0. I sent myself an email with an attachment (both in .vcf and in .cvs file type). However, thunderbird does not recognize the attachment at all, giving me no clue that there is an attachment. (outlook works btw).

Any idea how to fix this problem?

No there is not. Nor will there ever be. The preferred method is to filter folks through this support forum as very few people with issues actually have a bug.

You sent your self an email. To the same email address you sent it from? This is often problematical as the providers tend to have all sorts of special rules they apply when you email yourself. from not showing it at all to showing only the sent mail in the sent folder to showing both emails.

In this case I would try the following.

Restart Thunderbird with add-ons disabled (Thunderbird Safe Mode). On the Help menu, click on "Restart with Add-ons Disabled". If Thunderbird works like normal, there is an Add-on or Theme interfering with normal operations. You will need to re-enable add-ons one at a time until you locate the offender.

I have seen all sorts of weirdness with add-ons, and it is a first port of call when there are issues.

Hi Matt

thanks for the suggestions. Unfortunately, it does not work. I have no add-on installed at all. It is a clean installation.

My sense is that this has to do with file types? i tried the same thing for a word document and i have no problem. But it does happen when i attach a cvs file and vcf file, as well as files created by affinity design (.afdesign).

I sent myself a vcf and csv attachment, from a different account, and can confirm that TB 78 fails to display the vcf attachment. As a workaround for hidden attachments, open Config. editor under Options/General and double-click the preference mailnews.display.show_all_body_parts_menu to true. Then set View/Message Body As to All Body Parts to see the hidden attachments.

Assuming the VCF file a vCard file Thunderbird will display the vCard information at the end of the email body, I suggest V78 for that though as prior to that Thunderbird only understood vCard v2. To the best of my knowledge Thunderbird has never displayed VCF files of the type vCard as an attachment.

It may have come in with the option to send a vCard in account settings., but it was before my time in Version 2. Certainly the view all body parts option will display the cards, but it will also display significantly more than most people are interested in seeing in the way of attachments.

I do not see any special processing for CSV files though like there is for vCard and calendar invites, but a lot of providers simply strip them as a "threat". Does the CSV still exist when you set the view all body parts for the message?

HI all

thanks for the idea. I may have made a mistake by sending myself a vcf file but thought i sent myself a cvs file. Nevertheless, i have no problem with showing csv attachment now.

However, the problem of vcf file persists even if i set mailnews.display.show_all_body_parts_menu to true. Thunderbird gives no clue that something was attached.

anyway, thanks for the help.

Ok the VCF file is not shown as an attachment if the View menu Show attachments inline is turned on and the view is set to original HTML. Using view plain text or view simple HTML works. Or setting the view inline to off also works to make the attachment appear. Not this does not affect the way non Thunderbird users see your mail.
