Are you using IMAP or POP3 in thunderbird ?

If your using IMAP, remove the account and try to reconnect. It will resolve the issue.

No it is pop3

pop3.pop.hostcentric.com

No, it did not. Duplicates are still coming in :(

What exactly have you tried, I am not into reading lots of links to determine what has been tried.

The most common cause of this is either a corrupt popstat.dat file, or one that is unavailable when Thunderbird connects. This is usally because an anti virus product or other background task has the file locked when Thunderbird tries to use it.

If the profile is in a location that is Syncronised, has rolling backups or is scanned by an anti virus are all common issues with files being locked. By far the most common is anti virus and creating an exclusion in the anti virus for Thunderbird profile folder is the usual solution.

The other most common reason is your anti virus is scanning incoming mail and has choked and dies when it received a malformed mail. Norton's in particular has a bad habit in that regard. This usually means the same email is downloaded over and over but no new ones other that it actually arrive. The solution is to either locate the email on the server that is causing the issue (empty the deleted and spam folder for a start using web mail) and delete it. A simpler solution is prevent the anti virus from scanning mail so the download can complete without it crashing mid download. You can re-enable your anti virus scanning after if you wish.
