Firefox Lockwise not allowing me to change master password.

more options

So I recently changed browsers from Chrome to Firefox. I ran the import function and thought everything was transferred over. Went to log into a website today and it was not auto filling the information. Went to import all password data again this time it keeps asking me for a master password. Went through settings and this is not enabled so I'm trying to enable it so it can import. Says that it is unable to accept new master password even though this is the setup for this function. Gave up on that went back and looked at chrome for password and manually entered so that i could just click save when it asked. When i went to save log in information it said master password is required and still will not accept my entry even though it fills the bar for "quality". So no matter which route i go it is saying that changing master password has failed.

Sorry to hear about this problem.

In Firefox 76, if you did not previously have a Master Password set, you now need to enter your OS password (Windows password) in order to view or copy the plain text of a password you saved in Firefox's password manager (Lockwise). That might have been the initial problem, but I'm not sure. There's a screenshot of the new dialog in this article: Firefox asks for authentication (password, voice, face or fingerprint) when accessing passwords

There is a temporary way to skip this requirement if you're not interested in that extra layer of protection. By temporary I mean this probably won't be available forever.

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button accepting the risk.

(2) In the search box in the page, type or paste os-auth and pause while the list is filtered

(3) If the signon.management.page.os-auth.enabled preference has a value of true, double-click it to change the value to false

More info on about:config: Configuration Editor for Firefox.

With that turned off, then Firefox either will REALLY want a Master Password, or will stop asking for a password to access saved logins.
