How do I avoid skipping a line when press the "Enter" or "Return

When writing a new e-mail if I press "Enter" or "Return" the cursor skips a line. When pressing the "Up" button again a line is skipped. If I do so when writing an e-mail which is a reply to a received e-mail then the cursor does not skip any line.

My work around: I highlight all text with skipped lines, click on bullet points, then unclick the bullet points. The empty lines between texts disappear.

Please let me know if there is a way to prevent the skipping of lines when writing new e/mails. Thank you.

I fully agree with many comments in the link: the line skipping feature should have been optional. However I found it only a minor nuisance, not something to turn me off Thunderbird. In any case I had found a work-around. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

You're welcome.
