Chosen solution

you browse for each image and upload it. As you message does not have a image attached I assume you navigated to the file and did not actually upload it.

Is the Folder Pane hidden? Check View/Layout; press Alt if the Menu Bar with View is hidden.

Not solved yet, but I should add that the left side pane still displays Local Folders(10), but all the folders under my screen name ( about 100) disappeared. Does that suggest a fix? Thx

Try this: Help/Troubleshooting, click Open Folder (Mac: Show in Finder), close TB. Delete or rename folderTree.json, restart TB. Any difference?

If the root folder appears, i.e. the account, in the Folder Pane, do the subfolders appear if the account is selected and then Enter? If it's an IMAP account, right-click the account, Subscribe..., click Refresh. Do the subfolders appear in the list to be subscribed?

Thank you , but I don’t see the View Layout Alt click . My left pane saved emails have vanished . I only showman’s few Local Folders, but the others under my email address on the left side are gone, many years of files. Thx

Does your setup look like the attached picture, or are there more folders under Local Folders?

Thank you for your responses, but I have been unable to restore my lost email folders on the left pane. I retained a few local folders somehow, but lost all the folders which were under just my screen name email address at the top of the pane. I am now trying the "empty folder" and "folder pane not shown" links, which says to move the cursor to the far left of the window until the cursor changes into a double headed arrow and then drag the splitter bar to the right. Two questions: 1- The cursor does not change when I drag it to the far left. 2- What is a splitter bar? Thank you again for your help.

re :missing account Are you talking about a POP or an IMAP mail account ?

Please post some info: Click on 'Menu app icon' click on 'Options' Click on 'Account Settings'

Account Settings window opens. Do you see the missing mail account in left Pane ?

If yes: Select 'Server Settings' for the account name. bottom right you will see 'Local directory' Make the window wide enough to see all the content in the 'Local directory:' Copy all the content and paste it into this forum question or post an image so it shows everything.

Hi Toad Hall- I have a an IMAP account. I tried the Account Settings suggestion without success. The problem is I am still displaying about 10 Local Folders , but about 70-80 email folders stored under my email name and inbox at the top of the screen have vanished. Thx for your help.

click the activity manager on the app menu.

Does it contain any messages about your what did you call it "screen name" account?

  1. Now clear the list.
  2. Switch to the three pane window with your account in it and click the down arrow beside the "Get Messages".
  3. Select your "screen name".
  4. Again go back to the activity manager. What is showing?

What do you mean by 'without success' ? I asked you to post the 'Local directory:' information so the forum can see what it contains. You have not posted the 'Local directory' content. Is the imap mail account actually shown in the 'Account Settings' window ?

As you are talking about an imap mail account, please try this:

Logon to your webmail account using a browser to see your list of folders. Use this as an aid to get the folder name spelt correctly when following instructions below.

In Thunderbird

  • Right click on mail account name in Folder Pane and select 'New Folder'
  • Give the new folder a name which is identical, spelt exactly the same as one of your missing folders that appears under the mail account name folder.
  • click on OK
  • Then Right click on mail account name in Folder Pane and select 'Subscribe'
  • Click on 'Refresh'
  • Select the 'new' folder and click on 'Subscribe'
  • Click on 'OK'

Please report back on results.

1-The loss of my email subfolders did happen around the time of the update , Feb 2020?, if that is of any clue to why it happened. 2- I tried your suggestion of going to Account settings , but nothing changed. 3- Is there any way to talk directly with a tech support person ( by phone?), as that would make it easier to explain and get faster feedback? thx for all of your help.

re :3- Is there any way to talk directly with a tech support person ( by phone?), You do realise you are using a free product and using a free help support forum and getting free help from other Thunderbird users who are offering their time in a free voluntary capacity and just in case you did not know, this is a world wide forum. You are conversing with people from all over the world.

Logon to your webmail account via a browser. Can you see all the missing folders when you logon to yout webmail account via a browser? If yes, then that is good, but please tell us what you can see.

Will you please post this information: I have asked you three times to post the Account 'Local directory:' information so the forum can see what it contains. You have still not posted the 'Local directory' content. I attach an image below so you know what I'm talking about.

Please post some images so we can see what you have got stored. In Thunderbird

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information
  • Click on 'Open Folder' button

A new window opens showing the contents of your profile name folder.

  • Click on 'ImapMail ' folder
  • Please post an image showing the contents of the 'ImapMail' folder, so we can see how many accounts are in that folder.
  • Click on the imap mail account name folder to see contents
  • Post an image so we can see all the contents of that account folder.
  • If you see a folder with a .sbd extension : click on that folder to see contents.
  • Post an image showing the contents of the .sbd folder.
