I'm having issues connecting to my live.co.uk account using the autocinfig method, and switching to manual doesn't help either.

I've posted on reddit regarding this, and you can read the discussion here:

I've also contacted microsoft support for help, and after confirming that I had entered the correct username/email address/password, they told me to contact mozilla support for further assistance.

for the record, I am able to log into my account through webmail, and I have created an app password, but all to no avail.

what am I doing wrong here, because I can't think of anything.

Hello.

Is the POP protocol activated in Microsoft config ? See the attached screenshot (Parameters -> Mail -> Mail syncing).

Otherwise, it could be a network problem : - try disabling temporarily your firewall / antivirus - was it working with a previous Thunderbird version (or another mail client) ? - what does have changed since it was working before ? - do you have another mail account, that can be used in Thunderbird currently ?

In your screenshots, you are using different server parameters, why ?

that's it!!!

I didn't have it activated.

I was going mad trying to figure out why it wasn't working. I'm sure I didn't go through this the last time I did it though.

thanks for the help, it was greatly appreciated.
