Can't transfer email FOLDERS from my web-based account to Thunderbird. Email downloads but not folders and contents

I've changed email hosts (while keeping same address), and in Thunderbird, created two addresses/accounts- one with my old host (hostbaby) and one with my new (dreamhost). I've been able to download all my emails from the hostbaby web mail into my Thunderbird inbox (the hostbaby settings account), but none of the folders download. I've tried many ways of transferring folders, with te4ch support from hostbaby, no luck. Then tried some online instructions, no luck. Any advice?

Yes, the Tbird error message0 when I tr=y to transfer contents of a folder from local storage to the new, primary inbox and subfolders- says I've overused the quota.. never run into this before, back in the good old days when Tbird was linked to my old account/ host. Do you think my new host has a different quota, or is this entirely internal to Tbird /mozilla?

If the old host account was POP, transferring mail to the Inbox was done locally on your computer, since there is no upstream connection between a POP Inbox and the mail server. Transferring to an IMAP folder involves uploading from your computer, which besides being slower than downloading, is subject to bandwidth quotas. I think this is true with most hosts - you can look up gmail's upload quotas.

Hello again, will the Tbird adventure continues. I'm still getting the error message when I send. the outgoing sends, but it won't store and asks if I want to store in the local folders sent folder. I did go in to the copies and folders, and it is all set up as its supposed to be as far as I can tell. Any other ideas? Second, NOW (and this was NOT TRUE before I did the host change and migration process). When I search in my inbox for a category of emails (I use "tags" a LOT to categorize mail in my inbox), I'll get a list of emails from the category, and I can see a little of the email text in the small windew, but when I click on it to open the mail and view, there is NO TEXT. Its blank, nad the in fact the email completely disappears 9no subject line/sender in, its just gone). When I go back to just viewing the list, everything is there again. I am Stumped. You folks have been so helpful- I bet you know what this is all about! Thanks.

How are doing the search, Classic Search (Ctrl+Shift+F) or Global Search (Ctrl+K)? If the latter, messages that appear in the search results but are empty when you try to open them, may have been deleted, and probably won't be found if the global search index is rebuilt.

This is in my inbox on thunderbird. I'll search for a name that I have many emails from, The emails will come up as a list, and there is clearly text visible, but when i then try to open the email it is blank. I did select " compact folders" form menu, didn't see any change. I don't see an option anywhere to compact emails per se. Any further thoughts.

So, is this result with the Quick Filter Bar? Try Repair Folder from the right-click menu, Properties, then repeat the search.

Hmm. So I right click on the quick filter little "tab"? Nothing happens when I do that. I don't know where "properties" lives, unless its supposed to appear when Iright click the little field. But it doesn't Can you break it down a little more?/ THANKS!

Actually the problem is more when I just type a name into the search area to the right of quick filter. Multiple emails will show up under that name, but SOMETIMES, not always, they will be blank when I open them. I haven't yet sussed out if there's any pattern or reason for it working sometimes and sometimes not.

Right-click the folder in the Folder Pane, Properties, Repair Folder.
