Compressing mailboxes can't turn off the automatic option

It would appear at random intervals I am given a dialog box asking if I want to compress mailboxes. I never do. I can't tell that dialog that I never do, because the option is not there. How do I force thunderbird to leave mailboxes uncompressed?

I might add, I am able to on each occasion block it, but the dialog box appears at inopportune times when I am trying to do other things.

Were you wanting to loose all your mail? Just keep saying NO. It is that simple. Compact or compress as you call it finally purges deleted mail from a folder, that includes moved mail. It is an essential houskeeping action that must occur periodically. Your inbox store for instance gets pretty messy pretty quickly if you move a lot of mail to other folders or receive and delete a lot of mail as all that mail is still stored but not shown until you choose to compact the folder.

Options > Network and disk space you will find compact settings. You can even turn it off, but as I said, that is a very bad idea.
