email contact no longer exist - I assume its linked to the 'archiving' - which also purges my email history from my server. I find this really frustrating. Please have an option to never drop any addresses/contacts

If you added the contact to Thunderbird address book then it should be in the address book as this is completely separate and removing an email has nothing to do with the Address Book. Servers do not have access to files that are not connected to a server.

If you did not add contact to address book, then it was never stored.

Are you talking about a Thunderbird address book or MAC OS address book or connect to an address book held on server like gmail?
