Can I install Thunderbird on a 32-bit Windows 7 PC and a 64-bit Windows 10 PC and store my email files on a single flash drive to be used with either PC?

I know next to nothing about Thunderbird, other than the mail feature looks somewhat similar to that of Netscape 7.x which I used to use.

I've two Dell laptops, one running 32-bit Windows 7 SP1, the other 64-bit Windows 10. I often use either of these laptops on other networks, such that they aren't visible to each other.

I've got Thunderbird installed on the Windows 7 PC and have brought down all of my e-mail files from my ISP's POP3 server, leaving the original emails on that server for the time being, until I dare to delete them as I download them.

I'd like to be able to store all of these e-mails on a single usb flash drive that I'd be able to plug into either laptop (I intend to periodically back up the flash drive e-mails to a hard drive). I'm concerned with only one e-mail address. If this proves doable, I'll not keep any e-mails on my ISP's server.

Does anyone know off the top of their head whether the above is possible? I've downloaded the mozillaZine articles "Moving your mail storage location - Thunderbird" and "Moving your profile folder" (links immediately below), but I haven't yet spent the time to determine whether the profile.ini file(s) are going to be an insurmountable issue or whether there will be additional issues.

I'm hoping someone can immediately tell me whether I'm going to be banging my head against a wall. - Thanks.

I think the portable version of TB would be the simplest way to keep your data on an external drive and operate TB on multiple Windows computers.

Thanks very much. Installed PortableApps and Thunderbird Portable on a USB flash drive in the Win7 PC, and downloaded all my email files from the POP3. Am now running the app from the flash drive inserted in the Win10 PC.

Next I need to determine whether to use the PortableApps Backup utility, Synkron or Toukan to maintain a backup (or a Toukan mirror?) of the e-mails on a second USB flash drive.

If all that goes well, it will be donation time... -grin-

Pretty neat stuff. I haven't done any programming since 2002, so these seamless cross-os/cross-platform apps are all new to me. Love it. - Kudos to you all.

I'm not familiar with those backup apps, but since the portable TB keeps the program and user data in the same folder, unlike the desktop version which stores the program and profile (user data) in separate locations, you may as well just copy the contents from your working USB to another one for backup. The profile usually consumes the vast amount of space, compared to the program files.
