How to launch TB so that it's offline? [to restore mail using Thunderbird's offline store]

I lost quite a lot of email in my Mail app, but it's still intact in TB. So, I'm wondering: How I can launch TB so that it remains offline (i.e., it doesn't update the Inbox)?

Thanks for your help!

thunderbird -offline - but I wouldn't even trust that.

  • take your PC off the network (disable network if necessary)
  • copy the inbox mail to a new folder under "Local Folders" account
  • make sure the message bodies are in that new folder
  • fire up the network and check the old inbox
  • copy message from new folder back to inbox as needed

I know it works - I've recently had to do something similar
