I've been using Thunderbird for years. It's just updated itself on my W10 but now the usual shortcut tells me it's broken. I tried search but there's no mention of Thunderbird being in my list of apps. I then tried to reinstall and I was told that I couldn't because "Thunderbird has just updated, reboot your system to use it". That tells me it's still on my computer. Anyway, I've rebooted three times but it still can't be found. I opened my uninstaller and it's in the list of files I can select to uninstall it.

I have two questions, can it be fixed and if not, how can I save my settings and email accounts from the files I have on my computer. Thank you.

I would uninstall the current version and download and run the full installer for TB 60.9. Uninstalling won't affect your data, which is stored in the separate profile folder.

Hello, I've uninstalled and reinstalled as you advised. How do I restore the email accounts and my settings? It's not clear...

When you start TB, it should read your accounts from the profile folder, as long as it was in the default location. If TB doesn't do this and acts like it's a new setup, i.e. it asks to set up an account, reply here to find out how to make it read the existing profile.

Many thanks, I'll give it a go.

In the meantime, I've added some of my email accounts to the new installation and my laptop restarted halfway through. I restarted and clicked on the Thunderbird link and it says it's broken. Something's going on here...

If the laptop restarted during account setup, I wonder if Windows or some security program is trying to update and forcing a restart. What is the antivirus on the system?

I run AVG free and zonealarm firewall. I also have iobit malwarefighter. I am pretty sure it was interrupted, yes.
