I want to be able to use duckduckgo as a default search engine, but the option is not offered because my phone is in chinese.

The ability to install 3rd party search plugins will be in a future version of Firefox Preview. Firefox Preview has a fairly basic set of features currently. As developer time permits new features are added and released.
