I updated to 68.0.1 and now every tab takes about a minute to load. Can I revert to a previous version?

Before the update to 68.0.1 it worked fine, after the update it is slow as hell.

Hi Azeraeis, is this for any kind of link, same site, different site same tab, different site new tab, opened from outside Firefox, etc.? Or is there a different pattern to it?

Does Firefox seem to start trying to load the link right away, or does it just pause for no reason like it's frozen and then start trying after a delay?

Could you test in Firefox's Safe Mode? In its Safe Mode, Firefox temporarily deactivates extensions, hardware acceleration, any userChrome.css/userContent.css files, and some other advanced features to help you assess whether these are causing the problem.

If Firefox is not running: Hold down the Shift key when starting Firefox. (On Mac, hold down the option/alt key instead of the Shift key.)

If Firefox is running: You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > "?" Help button > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
  • (menu bar) Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

and OK the restart.

Both scenarios: A small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Refresh).

Any improvement?

jscher2000 - Thank you for your reply. This is for every tab for any site. Safe Mode makes no difference and uninstall/reinstall did not help. For every tab, once I click to go to it or when open a new tab, I get the spinning dot on the tab showing it is loading. If I try to go back to a previous page, if there was one, the page I was trying to get to will briefly flash on the screen before the browser goes back to the previous page and spins its wheels there.

Hmm, I haven't heard of that before.

You get an empty tab with the "loading" icon in the area where the page is supposed to appear, every single time?

It sounds as though Firefox is really struggling. Is it possible your system is low on memory? If you haven't shut down and restarted Windows since this problem began, that might be worth a try.
