I can't insert an image into my email
Just yesterday I was composing an email and I can't insert an image. I only get a blank box.

Image needs to be stored on your computer. Make sure the image is not something you are copy pasting from eg: website because you may well be importing a load of remote content with that image. Thunderbird does not allow remote content by default.
In Write window
- 'Insert' > 'Image' or use the Formatting Bar to insert 'Image'
- Use 'Choose File' to select image file.
- Select checkbox: 'Attach this image to the message'
- Enter any alternate text
- check any other requirements needed eg: Dimension tab
- click on 'OK' to insert
Yes that's what I'm doing - using images from my computer. I do all of the above and I get a blank box with no picture
Usually, if you forget to: Select checkbox: 'Attach this image to the message' then a black outline of box will appear instead.
I checked that box and still get the blank box. The picture shows up in the "preview" window, but not in the body of the email.
I tried sending and it says
There was an error sending - please check that you have access to this file.
I've never had this problem - of course - just happened after an update.
Nothing I do seems to make a difference
Sounds like a file has a 'Read only' attribute.
In Thunderbird Help > troubleshooting Information clickon 'Open folder'
a new window opens showing contents of your 'profile name' folder. Exit Thunderbird
for each file:
- Right click on file and select 'Properties'
- Attibutes: Read-Only should not be selected
- uncheck it if required
- click on OK
If you use POP mail account: click on 'Mail' folder If you use Imap mail account: click on 'ImapMail' folder
click on mail account name folder
- Right click on file and select 'Properties'
- Attibutes: Read-Only should not be selected
- uncheck it if required
- click on OK
Start Thunderbird.
Thanks so much for your help. I tried that, and unchecked the "Read-Only" atribute. Reopened Thunderbird and it's still not working. Checked it again and the "read only" is checked.
Sorry to be such a dunce - very frustrating
re :I tried that, and unchecked the "Read-Only" atribute.
Note: actual folders such as the 'mail account name' folder will have a read-only attribute. It is the files within those folders that should not have a 'read-only' attribute.
Please confirm: Did you exit thunderbird before changing the 'read-only' attribute? Are you using Pop or Imap? What was the name of the file which had the 'read-only' attribute selected? Was it a file in the 'profile name' folder or was it a file in the mail account folder?
Thanks for your patience with me
Yes I excited Thunderbird before making changes.
I'm using pop mail
I went to the "Mail" folder and under that are two folders
Local Folders pop.gmail.com
I unmarked the "Read Only" and applied. Opened up thunderbird and still no images
Next?
I went to the "Mail" folder and under that are two folders, Local Folders, pop.gmail.com, I unmarked the "Read Only" and applied.
Did you open the 'pop.gmail.com' folder to see files? Did you check those files for 'read-only' ?
There is one folder and the rest are files. None of the files are checked read only
The folder is Archives.sbd and is marked "read only", but when I change it and apply it goes back to the same.
All the files in that folder aren't marked
In the 'profile name' folder where you can see the 'Mail' folder, there are files such as 'prefs.js' Check those files for 'read-only'
After inserting an image in an email, the image is visible in the concept. After sending the email, the image has disappeared and the receiver of the email does not have the image in the email. I recently had to re-install Thunderbird 60.9.0 and since then this problem occurred. What do I have to change?
