While draft is on screen, auto saves draft when opening another program, such as Word. Didn't used to do this.

I often start an email, and before i finish the email, I need to go check some facts in another program, for ex: MS Word. So I open Word and then return to my open email. Meanwhile, Thunderbird has auto saved my partial email in my Draft Folder. How can I stop this from happening?

Thanks so much sfhowes! Your suggestion worked! This has been driving me batty; due to deleting these and other emails has been working sooo slowly. Any advice there? I've cleared everything I can think of.

I don't think it's auto saving because you open another program, but just following the schedule set in Tools/Options/Composition/General. This feature can be disabled if you wish by unchecking the box.

There can be many causes of slow performance, such as AV scanning, Windows search indexing, corrupted global search etc.

It's worth going through this list to check if any apply in your case.
