Today i was a little surprised to get a very stubborn window closed that claimed was from Firefox and my bank records and other sensitive material was being breached if i didn't call microsoft or a help desk and they said they were "still waiting" for me to take control of the matter.

A pop-up like this is never valid and absolutely doesn't come from Firefox or Mozilla. You should never respond to such a pop-up and always try to close this tab, you may have to press ESC a few times in a quick sequence in case JavaScript is blocking you.

If you get a pop-up message asking to update Firefox or plugins or scanning for malware then such a message is likely a scam and you should NEVER respond to such an alert to avoid getting infected with malware.

  • only update Firefox via "Help -> About" or by downloading and installing Firefox from the Mozilla and never via a pop-up or link on a web page.
  • plugins should only be updated via the plugin itself or by visiting the home page of the plugin.
