A pair of questionmarks is inserted at the end of most (all?) sentances in my e-mails. How do I fix?

Thunderbird. Both my wife's and my PCs do this. Recently converted to Thunderbird. Version 60.6.1 on Windows 10. They are not in the e-mails in the Sent folder.
