The C:\Users\windowsusername\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird folder, i.e. 'Root Directory' contains all user data, and is the only folder that needs to be backed up. The C:\Users\windowsusername\AppData\Local\Thunderbird folder, i.e. 'Local Directory', contains mostly cached data and does not need to be backed up.
