Firefox suddenly logged me out of all sites

I left firefox open for a few days, and when I used Firefox this morning, I found that I was logged out of all sites; all my preferences seemed to be reset, like the country selected in Google. Is there a backup for fireofx's cookies? And how do I prevent this from happening?
