Elderly parent double clicks messages, causing a new tab to open. This results to 10+ tabs being opened during an e-mail session. How can I disable?

I cannot find an add-on or method that disables double click. I do have the single click working correctly, with the message contents shown in the message pane.

Also, is there a way to set Thunderbird to not re-open all open tabs from a prior session?

I don't think you can disable double-click, but you make double-click open messages in the same window, under Tools/Options/Display/Advanced, 'Open messages in', 'An existing message window'.

TB opens with the same tabs that were open when it was last closed, so if you right-click any tab, Close Other Tabs, then close TB, it will open next time with just a single open tab.
