Why are so many common words now being flagged as misspelt in Thunderbird?

Composing an email using words like... freezer, previously, months, only, etc., and checking spelling as I type now results in them being underlined as if they're spelt incorrectly. This is a recent change and is most frustrating.

Chosen solution

Apparently I'm using the "British English Dictionary (Marco Pinto) 2.69".

Thank you very much for your help, which has resolved the problem. I'm very grateful.

Thank you for your reply. Before reading it I hadn't downloaded any dictionaries - I didn't realise this was necessary. I'd always thought a dictionary was present and used by default. However I have now done so. I also just updated TB from 60.4.0 to 60.5.0. On restarting TB, the problem has apparently been resolved. Am I right in thinking that downloading a dictionary would only take effect when TB is restarted? If not, then I can only assume that the new release (60.5.0) has fixed the issue. How can I confirm which dictionaries TB is using?
