Always check that Firefox is my default browser
It is, and I like it that way. What I don't like is that I can't uncheck the box that says 'Always check that Firefox is my default browser'.
If I wanted this kind of ***** I'd have stuck with Chrome. Can you help me or do I have to delete Firefox?
Thanks
Liam.

Hi Liam, I don't know why they grayed that box, but of course there is a way.
(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button promising to be careful or accepting the risk.
(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste SHELL and pause while the list is filtered
(3) Double-click the browser.shell.checkDefaultBrowser preference to switch the value from true to false

Note: Windows users should download the ActiveX for Internet Explorer. and the plugin for Plugin-based browsers (like Firefox).

Does it uncheck but it is checked again later, or does it not uncheck at all?

Note: Some software, like Advanced SystemCare with Surfing Protection, can protect files in the Firefox profile folder against changes. If you have such software then check the settings or uninstall this software.

If there are items grayed then it is possible that related prefs are locked.
Are there any active policies listed on the about:policies#active page?
You can open "about:" pages via the location/address bar
- "about:" is a protocol to access special pages

Hello Liam,
Would you please take a look at this bug report :
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1189038
When you scroll down, you'll see :
"Bug 1041516 made it so that when you set Firefox as the default browser, checking for default status on startup also gets set. That's good but we didn't prevent the check on startup setting from being unchecked. So a user can sabotage themselves by opening the options tab and unchecking "Always check if Firefox is your default browser." This will put them in a state where another browser can be set as default without Firefox noticing. We should make this setting unable to be changed when Firefox is the default browser."
Thanks for your help guys. Not a big problem but annoying enough still, so glad to have it solved. Appreciate it!
