When I action emails on my Samsung phone, using my laptop later lists all the emails I've already actioned. How to link the phone and laptop ?

I have used Thunderbird on my laptop for years. My server is POP3. I recently bought a Samsung Smartphone which is accessing my emails with no problem. When I action my emails on my phone (e.g. reply or delete them), if I use my laptop later all the same emails are still in the inbox with none of my actions having taken effect. My ISP confirms everything is OK as far as their settings are concerned, and the problem must be with Thunderbird. Is there a setting or method to ensure that Smartphone actions are 'noted' by Thunderbird to save having to do the email jobs twice ?!

Chosen solution

Get a new ISP. If they do not know the basic facts about email then they are not much good. You have to use IMAP instead of POP if you want email to sync across multiple devices. These are email standards not Thunderbird features. Any company providing email service should be expected to at least know this basic fact. Google IMAP vs POP so you understand how the two protocols work and differ. Then decide which one works best for you. If you decide to start using IMAP instead DO NOT change the existing account setup in Thunderbird. Follow this guide instead. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/switch-pop-imap-account

Thank you for excellent response. I will now take this up with my ISP, Spark NZ ( was Telecom NZ). I am only on copper ADSL broadband so whether this has a bearing on IMAP vs POP3 I'll have to ask them.
