I'm using ONE profile for Windows and Ubuntu. Thunderbird can't send or receive emails under Linux, keeps asking for passwords.
- I have been using Thunderbird for many years without a problem.
- I use the following solution on 3 different computers, a desktop pc, a laptop and a netbook.
- My OS are: Windows 7 and Windows 8, Ubuntu 14.04 and 16.04.
- All 3 computers are dual boot configurations, and I use the Windows OS and the Ubuntu OS alternatingly.
- I use ONE Thunderbird profile for Windows and Ubuntu on all 3 PCs.
- The Thunderbird profile is always stored on the windows partition under the usual path.
- Under Ubuntu I redirected the profile path to the profile on the windows partition. I always have to mount the windows drive first, before I can start Thunderbird, otherwise I get a "profile missing" message.
- For a few weeks now, the following problem apears: Under windows everything works fine. Under Ubuntu I can start Thunderbird, I can see all my email accounts (6), and all my "old" emails are there. But Thunderbird cannot receive or send any emails!? Thunderbird asks me, to enter my password for every email account. But even if I do, it can still not receive or send emails and the passwords will not be saved.
- The problem is the same on all 3 machines.
As far as my - extensive - research revealed, I suspect the old key3.db and the new key4.db and maybe the logins.json files got something to do with it.
But I'd really like to have some experts opinion on this, before I start tinkering with these files... :-)
Thank you very much in advanve for your time and your help, it is much appreciated!
