Can the new 'pocket' feature of Firefox for Fire TV be REMOVED? I do not like it that changes made without notification to the app user.

Message to MOZILLA (so as to NOT to annoy any other community user)

Until today (1st NOV 2018) I had never heard of 'pocket'. I still have no idea what it really is or what it actually does except show me something I am very unlikely to be interested in.

If ALL of the 'videos' highlighted by 'Pocket' are from YOUTUBE (and/or if any videos are from other 'similar' places to youtube - that I have also likely have never heard of), then it is of no use to me, since I can already get to youtube without it, to find something interesting to watch.

Or at least I was able to upto yesterday - using the youtube BOOMARK in Firefox browser for fire tv - even though there are problems with that - in that the 'firefox version' of youtube that appears does NOT remember some settings (autoplay OFF being one of them), that the youtube APP on my SONY ANDROID 4k TV DOES remember.

This Sony Android TV has the Opera browser - it is even worse than Amazon Silk. That is why I used Firefox on Fire TV instead of Silk.

It would be nice to have a choice of TV browser for my Sony from Android/Google, but currently it is Opera or nothing.

Now it seems like Firefox or nothing for Fire TV!

There are also similar problems with 'settings' (for the default BOOKMARK 'google video search engine' page), NOT being saved after clicking SAVE, when using it with Firefox for Fire TV browser

So this has to be done EVERY SINGLE TIME it is opened (just like with firefox/youtube).

So, can this 'new POCKET feature' be REMOVED?

I do not appreciate updates being applied WITHOUT NOTICE, or PERMISSION of the app user.

Most apps I have, inform me of updates being available, AND 'permissions' are detailed BEFORE the app is installed.

These permissions do NOT say 'updates are automatically applied as & when available'.

If they did, I would not want the app.

IF the consequence of NOT updating an app is that it stops working, then so be it! ANY changes made to the app (especially if including changes to any REQUIRED permissions) should be WITH the consent of the user, NOT WITHOUT the consent of the user!

I want to know what chages will be made BEFORE they happen, not afterwards when it is too late, to do anything about it!

It is bad enough that the Fire TV device updates its OS like this - also without giving any notice to me or asking my permission!

Third party user apps should not be allowed to do the same.

If this new feature is NOT removable, then I will likely not be using Firefox again on Fire TV. Which also means very likely NOT watching Youtube via Firefox either, whether this feature is ONLY for Youtube Videos, or not.

This inevitably means no Youtube via my bedroom tv, since Fire TV & Firefox is currently the only way to watch ANYthing on that tv - because the 'Silk' browser is so bad, as to be unusable.

Thanks for any comments or responses

Bob

Pocket is USELESS to me. I need the real estate for things I want, not things that Mozilla wants.

Please tell me how to remove it.

Hi Bob, I don't have a FireTV, so unfortunately I can't get hands on and explore the options in that version of Firefox.

Pocket Recommendations would show videos that were saved by other Pocket users, so possibly that content is above average or at least popular at the moment. Anyway, that's the idea. Please feel free to ignore it if there's no way to remove or collapse that section of the page. (I didn't see any way to do it here: Save to (or bookmark) and remove links from your home screen.)
