All of a sudden, after years of saving documents to Desktop, now when I save Pages or Numbers docs to Desktop, they just disappear--where do they go?

Over the last two days, whenever I create and then save a Pages or Numbers document, I can't find it anywhere, even though I save it to Desktop. And I can't find it through the Magnifying Glass tab. Where could it be hiding?

As a Windows person, that would never occur to me!

Hi bishkmi1, can you use the "Open Containing Folder" feature to find them? Each download listed in the Library that is in the same place Firefox originally saved it should have an icon on the right side (looks like a file folder) to open the location of the file and highlight the file. Does that work? See: Where to find and manage downloaded files in Firefox.

Actually, if you are creating these files locally in other applications, instead of downloading them through Firefox, they won't be listed as Firefox downloads.

If you open the other application (for example, Pages) and check its menus, does it have a feature to re-open recently edited files? That may help you track down where the application saved them.

These are just files that I create through Pages and Numbers. When I go to Save them, I always pick Desktop. But two days ago they didn't find their way to my Desktop and I can't seem to find them anywhere in any other folders.

They wouldn't be Downloads.

Thanks so much for having responded.

Now that I read your note, I am thinking that this must not be a Firefox problem, but, rather, a Pages and Numbers issue(?). And that seems strange to pop up out of a clear blue sky.

They don't seem connected, but I have one thought:

Do you set your Firefox downloads folder to your Desktop (on the Preferences page)? I suggest setting it to a specific Downloads folder instead. Otherwise, browser data cleanup might affect files on your desktop.

I will look at that. Thanks for taking the time.

In the interim, I contacted Apple as you got me focused on the fact that this isn't a Firefox problem. They solved it. The "missing" files were being downloaded to my Desktop on my hard drive, but wasn't replicating itself on the visible Desktop itself. So he Relaunched Finder and that brought all of the missing files to the visible Desktop as well as on the All My Files listing. Weird.
