I followed this protocoll: https://www.lifewire.com/access-outlook-in-thunderbird-3572532

Still, I got an error, saying TB couldnt control the configuration; is your password or username wrong?

I tried to fill in my app password as well from Microsoft (as I have two factor authentification), but still it didnt work....

1. Are you trying to create a POP or IMAP mail account ? In webmail account you must specify which you want to use and then use the one you have selected. If you have not done this then do it now.

2. re : I have two factor authentification selected If you have set up two-step authentication for your Outlook Mail on the Web account, do create an application password for Mozilla Thunderbird specifically and use this. Did you create an 'application specific password' specifically to use only in Thunderbird ? If you created one but use it on phone, then you also need one for Thunderbird. If yes, then you use that 'application specific password' instead of normal password.

So process would be:

  • Name: your name
  • Email address: full email address
  • Password: application specific password - this is case sensitive so make sure the caps lock key is not set on keyboard.
  • select checkbox to remember password.
  • click on 'Continue' button

Thunderbird attempts to get configuration settings. Are you trying to create a POP or IMAP mail account ?

  • click on 'Manual Config' button
  • If you want to create a pop mail account then double check that Incoming: POP has been selected.
  • Make sure you have not mixed up the settings. Pop and Imap use different server settings.
  • 'User name' would be your full email address.

You post an image of this 'Manual config' window so the forum could double check all settings are correct.
