Thunderbird always starts in the TRASH directory of my first mailbox. How do I get it to start in the IN BOX of my first mailbox?

I've tried starting T-bird in the safe mode as well but it always starts in the trash directory of Thunderbird's top mailbox.

Chosen solution

Select Help/Troubleshooting Information, click Open Folder to open the profile folder in Explorer, close TB, and delete or rename session.json. Restart TB and see if it makes any difference.

Thunderbird usually auto starts showing the folder you selected prior to closing.

If you have an program like CCleaner which can clean up files etc, I suggest you do not allow it to have any access to Thunderbird profile files and folders as it can cause cause havoc with session and pasword files etc.

for the mail account in 'Account Settings', do you have thunderbird auto checking for new mail on start up ?

There is an addon which has the option which allows you to set the default startup folder. https://addons.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/addon/manually-sort-folders/

Thanks for the response: I,m using Thunderbird 60.0b11 (32-bit)

I have Auto-Check for messages at start-up. Also tried without - no change.

I've tried closing T-Bird with the IN box selected but still comes up in the Trash box when restarted.

I've turned off the Empty Trash on Exit. Still comes back to the Trash when started.

I don't use CCleaner.

Right now it's just an annoyance I guess I can live with.

Thanks again.

Close Thunderbird in the Inbox. Launch Thunderbird in safe mode by holding the shift key when opening. Where did it open?

This time it started in the IN box in safe mode.

Now try starting in normal mode. Still open in the Inbox? If not start disabling any add ons you have one at a time to see if you have one causing issues.

Shut down and restarted in normal mode - Started in Trash box again. Sorry - Absolutely no add-on's or plugins associated with Thunderbird. I'm running it as it is. Thanks very much for the suggestions though. -v-

Launch TB in safe mode, check 'Reset toolbars and controls' and click 'Make changes and restart'. Does TB now open in the last opened folder?

Thanks my friend that did it. I have restarted many times to test from different directories and T-Bird starts in the last directory closed in. My sessions file was dated 08-30-2018 and never updated after that.

Good call and thanks to all for the help. Problem solved. -v-
