Cmd+Return is the shortcut for Send Message Now.

thanks - yes I'm choosing "send" (not send later) and all the prefs there I've set to send immediately but it's still not....

ah - I was using a key command cmd-shift-return which appears to be "Send later" ! thanks for the clue. now to find the correct key command for send now!
