Avast SafePrice banner pinned to top of Firefox hamburger menu: how to remove?
I have Avast free (Windows 8.1 64-bit current version Firefox) with their SafePrice Add-on disabled. It places a yellow banner on the top of the Firefox "hamburger" menu (top right of window) with a constant yellow exclamation point. The only way to make it go away is to agree to go into add-ons to enable it. While I don't enable it, and the banner goes away, it returns again soon.
I hesitate to remove that add-on, as I otherwise have a very aggressive Avast quite calm these days, and don't want to risk rousing that dragon :-) I wonder if Mozilla is aware of this intrusion in the menu, and allows an add-on to do this...

Hi, more to ponder but think this might pin down a scanner :
If not you can go to the Avast Forum https://forum.avast.com/ and info will be there some where.

I think Firefox will show the yellow exclamation point when it discovers a new extension in a shared location. However, I don't know why the symbol keeps coming back after you enable/disable the extension. Once you've decided what you want, that should take care of it. Perhaps Avast has a found a way to keep bringing it to Firefox's attention again and again?
Have you noticed any issues with Firefox "forgetting" settings or preferences for add-ons or anything else?
Except for a few odd behaviors of Firefox --like, when I open more than 3 windows in Facebook, Firefox will race my RAM to 100%-- and a general slow loading response on any page that has any complexity-- I see no glitchy behavior, no auto-change in settings. I'm thinking that Avast (a part of a growing family of AVG takeovers) has figured out how to get around Firefox's design, thus Mozilla may need to be advised. I haven't a clue how to report such things however...
I'd strongly suggest not only removing any Avast Extensions (Disable or remove Add-ons) but removing Avast altogether, as they are generally regarded as a poor antivirus and do many things to put your computer at risk.
I suggest using the built in Windows Defender, and monthly scans with www.malwarebytes.com (if you can, update to Windows 10, it's much more secure than 8.1)
Sometimes possible solutions these kinds of situations are in part influenced by one's own beliefs and proclivities. While your advise is probably quite sound, I'm holding out for post-Windows 10.
I have two PC's, one with Windows 7, one Windows 8, both work better than I've ever had PC's running, given a particular formula I prefer, which precludes my being able to follow your suggestion, no matter how expert. Thank you though for giving me something to ponder.

Since the problem is intermittent, I won't know for sure yet, but I'm confident that you're on to something here. Whatever the case, if this isn't it I'm sure Mozilla will eventually, by hook or crook, make this problem disappear...whether intentionally or by chance! Thank you!
Wells it's not a Mozilla problem, it's something fishy avast is doing. I suggest removing it or complain to their customer service.
It is only a Mozilla problem to the extent that Avast may be intentionally breaking barriers set my Mozilla. But complain to that money hungry and dishonest conglomerate? Even if I used their paid version they are not interested in customer opinions, only their money...
