Dear Supporter Could you tell me how I can tell Thunderbird on Ubuntu to use the th standard directory ~/.thunderbird instead of ~/.firefox? Background: On my Ubuntu system I tried ot open my Thunderbird with my profile which worked fine for several years. Since a couple of weeks, thunderbird doesnt find it's profile and tries to create a new profile for me. As I created this new profile, this occured in the folder ~/.mozilla/firefox and not as expected in ~.thunderbird/ . In this messup it looks like that I can't start thunderbird and firefox in parallel (each of them says "alredy running" if the other is started).

Here's my profiles.ini of my .thunderbird directory (unfortunately I could not attach it): [General] StartWithLastProfile=1

[Profile0] Name=default IsRelative=1 Path=12345.stefan Default=1

My Linux is 4.13.0-38-generic #43-Ubuntu SMP Wed Mar 14 15:20:44 UTC 2018 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Many Thanks fpr Your Help!

Best Regards Stefan Wilhelm

Chosen solution

Please follow the steps to create a new profile in the article linked above. Do not specify a custom location for the profile folder.

Describe in detail what you're doing. Screenshots would help. https://support.mozilla.org/kb/how-do-i-create-screenshot-my-problem

Thunderbird will always look at ~/.thunderbird for profiles. This cannot be changed.

As I created this new profile, this occured in the folder ~/.mozilla/firefox and not as expected in ~.thunderbird/ .

My best guess is you created a Firefox profile, and not a Thunderbird profile. https://support.mozilla.org/kb/using-multiple-profiles

Dear Christ, unfortunately it looks exactly like described. The profile in .thunderbird is not used and the new profile occurs in .firefox directory. The other issue is that I cannot run thunderbird and firefox in parallel. For me it looks like these problems have the same root cause. Is there anythin I could do to solve these issues? By the way: at my Windows-PC it's the same: the thunderbird profile is now in %USERDATA%\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\ instead of %USERDATA%\AppData\Thunderbird\

Many Thanks fpr your effort!

Best Regards Stefan
