Not able to open links in Thunderbird 52.9.0
I have followed the steps outlined in
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/hyperlinks-in-messages-not-working
But the link for Standard Diagnostics is not working.
I have recieved an email from Groupon and the links do not work. I have also tried emails from other sources and they are not working either.
Below is the Trouble Shooting information from Thunderbird:

Please test 52.9.1 and post your results. Thanks.
I am now on 52.9.1 and it still does not work. I click on "Shop Now" button and nothing happens.
The standard diagnostics link works for me, it goes to this address. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic_-_Thunderbird
Please try the link and see if it works for you. It may be relevant.
Hover your mouse over the groupon shop or whatever the link button is.
In the status bar at the bottom of the Thunderbird windows, what link is displayed? Does it start with HTTP? HTTPS or something else?
Right click the button in Thunderbird. From the menu that appears select copy link location. Return to this thread and paste into a reply so I can see the actual link. Also paste the link into the bar at the top of your browser and press enter. Does the link open?
In my case with groupon promo email and using 52.9.1, hovering produces nothing in status bar (unlike with other email senders). It's as if there were no links at all.

I performed all of the steps in the standard diagnostics and I still have the same issue.
When I hover over the link, nothing shows at the bottom for the HTML. If I go to "View/Message Body As / Plain Text" I see the link and I can then click on the link and have it open in Firefox. Going back, to the original setting, the link does not work.
I have the same problem. Using 52.9.1. Messages from Groupon. Links do not work. Thunderbird knows that its a link as it changes the cursor. BUT the link contents are blank. Looking at the source of the message, the URL begins with a linefeed. The '<' of the link is separated from the 'http' by a blank line.
As in: < https://url.....url>
Apparently Thunderbird is (correctly) not parsing this as a valid URL. This behavior seems to have started with a recent update. Maybe 52.9.0 or 52.9.1. Browsers appear to accept these mal-formed URLs as when I use a web email client, the links appear to be valid and are functional.
I've been trying to contact Groupon to inform them about these bad URLs, but so far no luck. I only get to the normal CSR people and no-one in there IT or Web support group..
Doing a google search of "whois groupon" I find from the whois.com website the following information, try one of these: Registrant Contact Name: Systems Administrator Organization: Groupon, Inc. Street: 600 W. Chicago Ave City: Chicago State: IL Postal Code: 60654 Country: US Phone: +1.3128705288 Fax: +1.3122757757 Email: email@groupon.com
Actually this email might be better email@groupon.com
