firefox doesn't load but is showing in XP task manager

after failing to load (but showing in XP task manager) i had to uninstall firefox v.52.8.1.6730 and reinstall Firefox Setup 52.8.1esr.exe 3 times in a raw (after uninstalling the previous). The same problem continues :-( firefox doesn't load! I have kept the original profiles folder in an external disk.

Chosen solution

Finally, I removed every installation or parts of firefox and worked on the computer for 4 days cleaning it, removing duplicate files etc. The 5th day i installed Firefox Setup 52.9.0esr and it opened normally!! I even put back my old profiles folder without any problem. Since then Firefox is working smoothly :-) I thank all of you guys for your suggestions.

Close Firefox. Open your file browser to this hidden location:

  • Mac: *~/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles
  • Linux: *~/.mozilla/firefox/Profiles
  • Windows: %AppData%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles
  • *C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles
  • Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Application Data
    \Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\

Search for the above files. Then rename or delete them. Restart Firefox.

these files exist only in the original profiles folder that have been moved to en external drive. In the current newly installed installation no such files exist yet!

Note : EOL of support for XP end of July. New version of esr which you should be on released today :

Actually the 52.9.x ESR will be EOL on Sept 5 when 60.2.0 ESR and 62.0 is Released.

thank you Pkshadow for the info. I downloaded and installed Firefox Setup 52.9.0esr.exe and sadly no change, the problem is the same: firefox doesn't load but is showing in XP task manager!
