Thunderbird 52,7: How to open address book in tab or column in main window?

Is there a way to open the address book in the already open Thunderbird window, instead of a new window? Any buried settings I can access? I haven't found an addon which works yet. A tab would be ideal or considering the size of most desktop monitors even a column in the main window.

There is a Contacts Sidebar available in the Compose window, which seems to me to be the most appropriate place for it.

And there is this add-on: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/contact-tabs/

I am forever looking up phone numbers and email address for others. Since I always have Thunderbird open it is a quick way to copy the information for this purpose. The contacts add-on tab will work well for my purposes, easy to locate... and is still there when I have to repeat the information :)

I apologise for missing this add-on in my own search. But I am sincerely grateful for your prompt reply.
