Do not want to use password everytime I go to Thunderbird

For years never used password to get emails. Now, in the past few weeks every time I go to T.bird I need to enter a password. Would like to go back to the old routine where no password entry was necessary

Chosen solution

The box was not checked--empty box. Shut down, then tried it again. Continues to ask for the password. So I enter the password. Cycled a couple of times with the unchecked box. Same result. It was so smooth when I did not have to enter a password. Thanks for your suggestion. JTC

Are you referring to a Master Password that you need to enter every time you start the program. If yes, then this can be turned off. Go to Tools...Options...Security

Under the Passwords tab there is a check box next to Use a Master Password. Uncheck the box.

The check box is for Thunderbird to remember the password. This is your email providers server asking for your email password. Either you check the box for Thunderbird to remember it and enter it for you or you enter it yourself. If you keep leaving the check box empty, expect the same results.

This has nothing to do with the master password mentioned above. That is an optional password to protect access to your saved email passwords. This is a good idea if in and environs where other people!e have access to your computer and might want to peek at your email passwords.

This is a private computer. No one else has access. Have not needed password for Tbird for many years. A few weeks ago Tbird began asking for password. I don't want to use a password. None of the suggested solutions have helped. It seems smoother just to use AOL. JTC

You are correct. You do not need a password for Thunderbird. It is just delivering the message that your providers server is asking for one.

Fact. All email accounts have passwords. Fact. Every time to ask the providers server to get or send mail it asks for a password. You can check the box in the dialog box for Thunderbird to remember your email password and enter it for you or you enter it yourself. You stated you cleared to box for Thunderbird to remember so why are you confused why you are being asked to enter it yourself?

You can keep saying it worked in the past or you can check the box for Thunderbird to remember it. Or just use AOL. They are going to ask for your username and password too.

FYI: AOL and Verizon merged email services and sent memos to users to make changes to their settings. If you have not done that, then that is more likely to be your real issue. Contact AOL for the correct settings.
