I have Firefox v4.0, but the documents do not display well on it. So, I wish to update it or if there is any work-around. I am using HP Passport 1912nm 18.5-inch Internet Monitor. Operating System Custom HP Linux Kernal 2.6.35.

The 2.6.35 version of Linux Kernel is pretty old now as the version was from second half of 2010. So the various needed packages you have if not kept up to date since are likely rather old also.

The Firefox 4.0.x version you have may be a third-party build and not a official build from mozilla.org like say www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/ as to why no updates.

You likely have little or no support from repositories in you package manager now.

If you can make a folder in user Home and extract the tarbal in it and run the firefox .sh then you can see if it works. It would be best to try and start Firefox in a Terminal so it can show the errors on why it does not start for example.

Older Releases can be downloaded from http://archive.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/ if the Firefox 59.0.2 or 52.7.3esr does not work.

There are some essential package versions dependencies that you may run into if the Linux distro you have has not been kept up to date.

Firefox 4.0 was released back on March 22nd, 2011 and there has been some changes in requirements since.

ALSA support was dropped starting Firefox 52.0 and later. Some Linux distros may have delayed this change to PulseAudio with their own third-party Firefox packages to use ALSA until more recently.

A issue you may run into is the official builds of Firefox since 46.0 and later has required GTK 3.4 (three point four) at minimum to run though most Linux distros in the past few years likely had at least GTK 3.12 (three point twelve) or newer. The current GTK is 3.22.x (three point twenty-two). The old GTK 3.4 (three point four) version came out in March 2012 if I recall so it is possible you have at least this minimum.

Putting the GTK numbers in words as some people have seen the old GTK 3.4 as a higher number over say 3.16.

Hello, the operating system is Custom HP Linux Kernal 2.6.35 for a Internet Monitor, I am unable to find a way to access the terminal on this monitor to run these steps. So, is there a way I can install the latest Firefox? Whenever I check for updates from the inbuilt browser option, it always says latest Firefox already installed.

Thank you, that is what it looks like, we are unable to even operate on these units... So, we may not be able to update unless the browser finds a new compatible version.
