How does one open Events and Tasks? It did at first, but now no longer.
(Nothing to add.)

Thank you, Toad-Hall, for your response. Unfortunately, in my case, although clicking on Events & Tasks does open a drop-down panel listing options such as New Even, New Task, Calendar, etc., but none of these options are actionable; moreover, most are grayed out; only Calendar and Tasks appear black, but they are not actionable either.

Various methods:
- Via 'Menu Bar'
- click on 'Events & Tasks'
- choose from option eg: New Event
- Via 'Mail Toolbar'
- click on 'Menu icon' > 'Events & Tasks'
- choose from option eg: New Event
Top right above tabs:
There should be a couple of icons that look like a notepad or calendar. Calendar has a number 7 on it and the other has a tick on it.
when you hover over them, a pop up should say
eg: 'Switch to the Tasks tab'
You can also show the 'Today Pane' on the right hand side. 'Menu icon' > 'View' > 'Today Pane' select 'Show Today Pane' There is usually also the option of selecting this from the bottom right of 'Status Bar'

Do you still have Lightning installed? It should appear under Tools|Add-ons|Extensions.
Yes, I still have Lightning Installed, though I have never used it.

Events and Tasks are a part of Lightning. Go to addons and see if it is still there and active.
As stated by me earlier, the drop-down list at the Events and Tasks Tab is not operational. NormanSS
I asked about Lightning in the add one tab. If Lightning is not there or is disabled then this discussion is not going anywhere.
'Menu icon' > 'Add-ons' In left column, select 'Extensions' - it has an icon that looks like a jigsaw puzzle piece. If installed, Lightning will be in the list, but you need to check to see if it is actually enabled. If you are using Thunderbird version 52.7.0 The correct version for Lightning will be 5.4.7 If you see an 'Enable' button, click on it because it means it is currently disabled. If you see a 'Disable' button then it means it is already enabled.
Confirm :
- Are you using the current version of Thunderbird and the correct version of Lightning?
- Is Lightning is enabled?
If you needed to enable Lightning, you may need to restart Thunderbird.
I am using the correct version for Thunderbird, 52.7.0, and the correct version for Lightning, 5.4.7, and it is enabled as it displays a 'Disable' button. Nevertheless, the problem I'm having persists -- in the Events and Tasks drop down table, clicking on New Event or New Tasks leads nowhere. NormanSS

Could you post the following Information: In thunderbird Help > troubleshooting Information click on 'Copy text to clipboard' button
In this forum question, right click in a 'Post a Reply' text box and select 'Paste' You can remove everything except 'Extensions'.
I need to see the 'Extentions' list as you may have another addon extension causing a conflict.
If Lightning addon was enabled and working ok then Clicking on 'Events & Tasks' and selecting 'Calendar should have put a tick against 'Calendar' in the drop down list and opened 'Calendar' in a new tab.
I'm presuming you do not see the two icons for calendar and tasks in top right corner above tabs?
Try the following:
- Menu icon > addons
- select the Lightning extension and click 'Remove'
- at the prompt...restart Thunderbird.
- Menu icon > addons
- In top right search type: Lightning
- select the Lightning extension and click 'Install'
You may need to wait a while whilst it installs
- At the prompt 'Lightning will be installed after you restart Thunderbird'
- click on 'Restart now' to restart Thunderbird
This should install version 5.4

If clicking on 'Calendar' opened in a new tab, but Events and Tasks' are not working / greyed out:
Test to see if the calendar is read only. If it is read only then you may see greyed out options and they may not function as expected.
Right-click the calendar in the left pane and select 'Properties' Make sure your calendar isn't read-only.
As you are new with Lightning, here's an additional link with good info:
