I have four accounts and I have checked via Tools > Account settings that my name is correctly displayed but what actually appears in the "cc" list and sometimes in "To" is the name "Me". Usually the "From" and "To" on individual emails is correct unless the email has been created using the reply button when sometimes it comes up with "Me" rather than my name. How can I fix this irritating problem.

Have you been able to check how your messages appear in your correspondents' email clients?

I'd hope the "me" is just a local substitution within Thunderbird.

This site:

shows a setting in the config editor.

It seems to work; I have just checked my settings and found it was already set.

I am using Windows 10 and have looked in both Edit and Tools and cannot find the Preferences dialog box. Where is it hiding? I am loading Thunderbird from the desktop icon and get a screen listing all my accounts and folders on the left hand side of the screen. Which screen should I be using as a start point or is the menu bar the same for all the screens?

Do I have to 'set' the configuration for each individual e mail account or can I do it just once?

The site did mention "it may be in the Tools menu on Windows" and indeed that's where you need to look.

Tools|Options|Advanced|General in the traditional menu, or Options|Options|Advanced|General via the three-bar "Application Menu".

If you ever meet similar instructions that don't seem to fit with what you have, this site can be useful:

Thank you for both bits of information. Unfortunately the "Value" was already set to true. As I understand it, this may not be the cause of my problem. I will try to do further checks to see when the "Me" occurs and when it doesn't. At present the problem does not seem to be 'consistent'. Sometimes my name appears correctly and sometimes "Me" appears but I haven't yet been able to trace what circumstances causes it to be right or wrong.

I have done some more research and it seems that of the four accounts I am using just one is working correctly and the other three are not.

I.e. those emails sent from and to the account working 'correctly' show my name not "Me". Those e mails sent from the other three accounts show my name on both incoming and outgoing e mails as "Me".

I cannot be certain that this is always the case and totally consistent but it seems to be on the sample I have looked at.

Does this help in determining the source of the problem?

Still no solution! I have tried the suggestions. Can anyone help?
