When I click on a link (the kind that's like Javascript?) it doesn't respond? And some websites' interfaces don't appear on Firefox.

Hi guys, I have recently switched to Firefox but there is one problem that bothers me. I'm not that tech savvy so I'm not sure how to describe it or if it has anything to do with Javascript. For actual hyperlinks/URLs on forums etc., I can click on them and it will redirect me to said page just fine. However, when it's kind of like not just a link?? Those buttons that you usually see on professional websites it doesn't respond when I click on it. For example, I was on the Discord Nitro page (https://discordapp.com/nitro) and when I click on the "Open on Discord" button, it doesn't redirect me to the purchase Nitro (a subscription) on the Discord software/website on Firefox. Unresponsive. However, when I click on the same button on Opera it redirects me to where its intended. For vocaroo.com, I'm unable to record anything on the site on Firefox because the whole interface is "eaten away" by something. This is how it looks on Firefox https://i.imgur.com/On7j8gv.jpg versus how it looks normally (on Opera) https://i.imgur.com/8MQeuOD.jpg I'm not sure what the problem is but I've tried refreshing Firefox a couple of times. I appreciate the help in advance.

I think it's best to try using one ad blocker at a time as they may step on one another, but your Firefox is like a laboratory for that theory, so let us know what you discovered.

I'm not sure what Open in Discord should do, but Firefox doesn't give sites a a direct way to load content in external applications. One way that could work is to use a specially crafted URL that start with a protocol registered to their application. That would replace http: or https: and could be similar to mms: or mailto: (if you use stand-alone email software). Any idea how it works in other browsers?

Hi, on Discord, you might need an account to see "Open on Discord" -- I don't see that anywhere.

On vocaroo, the area where the Flash plugin should appear is collapsed. On mine, I see this:

Possibly you don't have a Firefox-compatible Flash plugin installed or it's disabled?

Could you start by checking the Add-ons page. Either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a (Mac: Command+Shift+a)
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
  • type or paste about:addons in the address bar and press Enter/Return

In the left column of the Add-ons page, click Plugins.

On the right side, can you find "Shockwave Flash"? If it's there, see whether the permission needs to be changed from "Never Activate" to "Ask to Activate" (default permission). If that's not possible, the version may be too old and need updating.

If you do not have Flash or cannot activate it, you can get the latest version on this page:

https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

The site serves you a version for the browser you're using when you visit the page, so either use Firefox, or use this link:

https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/otherversions/

Before downloading the installer, uncheck any unwanted extras in the center column. Don't see the center column check boxes? Make sure one of your ad blockers isn't hiding it.

Hey jscher2000,

Thank you! I had installed Adobe flash for my other browsers but didn't know that they don't apply to Firefox. Installed flash and now vocaroo works fine on Firefox.

For Discord, I was logged in on Firefox and actually have the Discord desktop app and by clicking "Open in Discord," it should direct me to my desktop app showing me how to pay for Nitro (like how Opera did) but it didn't. Those links are never responsive to me. Some other sites act in similar manner as well. Massdrop, for example (you kind of need to be logged in to navigate around for the site unfortunately I apologise), the homepage looks like this: https://i.imgur.com/sOSENgq.jpg So the problem is really at the top with the four "links": Discover, Drops, Talk, Polls. I'm not really sure if these are hyperlinks, because I can't click on them (they just bring you to a different URL but it doesn't reload the page?) unless I open link in new tab/window. On Opera/other browsers, I could click on these four links without any issue. I believe that is the same problem with the "Open in Discord" issue.

Can you rule out the four ad blockers and pop-up blocker as potential culprits? One way to test is to try the sites in Firefox's Safe Mode. In its Safe Mode, Firefox temporarily deactivates extensions, hardware acceleration, and some other advanced features to help you assess whether these are causing the problem.

If Firefox is not running: Hold down the Shift key when starting Firefox.

If Firefox is running: You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
  • Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

and OK the restart.

Both scenarios: A small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Refresh).

Any improvement?

Yes, Massdrop works fine now! With that many adblock extensions installed, it's weird for me to be surprised that that is the problem. I guess I will reenable them one by one to see which one exactly is causing the problem.

However, I still can't really use the "open in discord" button but I suppose that's least of my problems now.

Yeah, you're right. I have always used only one but grew tired of how some ads just bypassed my adblocker so I decided to install a couple reputable ones to block almost all of it, which works wonders. The pop-up blocker that I installed was actually the problem here, I uninstalled that one and reinstalled another popup blocker that did not give me any issues. Thanks a lot again!

No wonder it worked on Opera. I tried it on Microsoft Edge and it didn't work either so I guess it's not a feature that Firefox has. I don't really know how it all works because I don't really know coding and stuff, so even on Inspect Element I really have no idea what goes on.
